Hotel Jerome Aspen
Imagine a place where rugged cowboys rode in on horseback, where soldiers gathered for a pint, where businessmen negotiated their latest investments, and where modern-day screen stars retreat — this is Hotel Jerome, an Aspen icon with a storied past.
Hotel Jerome’s first chapter begins in 1889 at the height of Aspen’s silver mining boom. With electric lighting, full indoor plumbing, and the first elevator in Aspen, Hotel Jerome quickly became the most luxurious accommodation west of the Mississippi. It was founder, Jerome B. Wheeler’s desire to create a place that emulated the grandeur of Europe’s finest hotels, and that’s exactly what he did. To this day, Hotel Jerome is known for being cutting-edge and luxury, but its illustrious past is not easily forgotten.
Aspen’s spirit and heritage are felt throughout the three-story brick building. Antique adorned walls chronicle the town’s history, while the perpetually dimmed hallway lights transport you to the 19th century. It seems as though the past and present have found a way to coexist at this iconic Aspen landmark, but if one thing has remained the same it’s that Hotel Jerome is the epitome of Western luxury.
Guests staying at the hotel are treated to handsome, generously-sized rooms furnished with rich textiles, burnished-leather accents, and polished chrome tables. Floor-to-ceiling windows, draped with cashmere curtains give way to fantastic mountains views. From private airport transportation to twice-daily housekeeping and luxurious Hermes bath products, no detail is overlooked. The leisurely oasis knows how to treat its guests to the splendor of Aspen.
Hotel Jerome has been Aspen’s social hub for locals and visitors alike since it first opened its doors, so it’s no surprise that its 130 years have been riddled with mysteries and secrets. From the Prohibition era scandals to Hunter S. Thompson’s infamous run for sheriff, the rooms of Hotel Jerome are filled with stories, and today, they invite you to create your own.
